Chief Strategy Officer | Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS)

Bowei Hao is a senior healthcare executive with more than 18 years of experience leading strategy, growth, business development, and innovation across large health systems, physician organizations, payors, and healthcare technology partners. He currently serves as Chief Strategy & Growth Officer at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), where he is responsible for setting enterprise strategy and advancing initiatives that expand HSS’s clinical, geographic, and organizational impact.

At HSS, Bowei leads cross-functional teams to develop and operationalize systemwide strategic priorities, including national and international growth, strategic partnerships, and new business ventures. His work spans strategic provider collaborations, musculoskeletal innovation, and the creation of externally funded spinout companies. He plays a central role in integrating strategic planning with operating and financial processes, while supporting board, physician, and leadership alignment around long-term direction.

Previously, Bowei served as Strategy Lead and Chief of Staff to the CEO at Nuvance Health, where he partnered closely with executive leadership on large-scale transformation initiatives, service line growth strategies, physician integration, and value-based care development.

Earlier in his career, he was an Engagement Manager at The Chartis Group, advising academic and community health systems on service line strategy, clinically integrated networks, and accountable care models. He began his career in healthcare strategy roles at Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health, focusing on growth forecasting, insurance product development, and enterprise strategic planning.

Bowei holds an MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business and a BA in International Economics from the University of California, San Diego.
